Akron Women’s Rugby is a pay-to-play team, where some team members travel from over an hour away to play the sport. The team is open to all ages, cultures, identities, body types, abilities and backgrounds, according to player Abigail Stopka, 28, of Akron. “This season has been extremely rewarding. Everyone is so determined and focused. This is the best we have ever played so games have been very intense. I am so proud to be a part of such an amazing team,” Stopka toldIf the team wins Saturday, they will advance to the semi-final round, according to Stopka. The league championship will be held in Chicago next month, and a national championship will take place in the spring.
