Last year, when Alabama started at No. 6 before falling out of contention with a loss to LSU, was the first time since 2014, the first year of the CFP that the Crimson Tide hasn’t been in the top four when the first rankings were released. That season, Alabama lost to Ole Miss in October, but was able to claw back into the top four by winning out and taking the SEC championship, before falling to Ohio State in the semifinal.
Alabama closes its SEC season in the Iron Bowl at Auburn. The Tigers have struggled in Hugh Freeze’s first season on the plains, but the Crimson Tide has had its struggles at Jordan-Hare Stadium through the years.
