Rep. Gary Palmer withdrew from the Speaker race Monday.
Alabama Rep. Gary Palmer withdrew his name from consideration for Speaker of the House Monday as Republicans met to decide on a new nominee.“Congress and the American people needed a Republican Speaker three weeks ago. If withdrawing my name can help expedite that process even a little, then I will gladly step aside,” Palmer wrote in a statement on X.
I will work with the next speaker on the ideas I have laid out so Congress can come together and do the job the American people sent us here to do.Rep. Palmer’s exit from the race comes 21 days after Republicans ousted former Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Since then, no candidate has received the majority vote required to win the gavel.
