Alabama, Sara Evans, Nelly, Yung Bleu and more will perform at Birmingham's Protective Stadium.

Many of the artists are from Alabama or have strong Alabama ties. The opening and closing ceremonies at the stadium, 1020 24th St. North, will celebrate the music and cultural history of the host city, according to a press release.

Bootsy Collins -- a Parliament-Funkadelic veteran, space-age bassist and flamboyant bandleader -- will serve as the master of ceremonies. Collins, 70, is no stranger to Birmingham and served as theThe opening ceremony on July 7, “Unlocking The Magic: Celebrating The Power of The One,” will feature “live entertainment, special effects, honorable dignitaries and a parade of athletes representing more than 100 countries,” the release says.

The agenda for both ceremonies features “700 combined performers across the two nights , a 75-piece orchestra, and an array of choral ensembles including gospel, classical and youth choirs,” the release says. “It is our goal to showcase and celebrate the very best of Alabama in presentations that are both festive and reflective, commemorating our past yet articulating the hope of our future,”, artistic director of the games, said in a statement. “I wanted to combine the elements of Olympic ceremonies and Super Bowl half-time shows, with the best of my true loves ... the sounds of a symphony orchestra and the pageantry, artistry and precision of professional drum corps..

About 3,600 athletes from more than 100 countries are expected to compete in the World Games over an 11-day span, in sports such as softball, flag football, gymnastics, sumo wrestling, sport climbing, drone racing and other events.
