Brazil was previously city manager for Davis.

Brazil takes over from Eric Levitt, who will start as Fullerton’s city manager next week after serving in Alameda for three years.

The Alameda City Council is expected to formally hire Brazil at its May 17 meeting. If approved, Brazil would start on May 23. Brazil served as city manager for Davis, a slightly smaller city. Davis has about 68,000 residents while Alameda has about 78,000. Before that, Brazil worked in the office of Lt. Gov. Gray Davis and for the state Department of Fish and Wildlife. Since his retirement in 2017, he has served as interim city manager for South Lake Tahoe and interim executive director for the Yolo Habitat Conservancy.

Brazil’s salary will be the same as Levitt’s, $133.85 per hour, or about $278,000 a year. As a CalPERS retiree, he is not eligible for employment benefits.
