Alan Titchmarsh has staunchly backed everyone who shares a name with a storm, saying he doesn’t understand the point in naming them.
The presenter and gardener said he feels for people who share names with storms, as they will always be associated with the destructive weather. ‘I know the damage that such storms wreak is, at worst, life-changing and, at best, an inconvenience, but what is the point in giving them names? Does it really make any difference to our attitude towards them?’ the 73-year-old said.‘I rather feel for folk whose name is taken to identify such a tempest.
