Anthony Albanese and Peter Dutton have delivered their first Christmas messages as Prime Minister and Opposition Leader, but the two holiday greetings took a distinctly different tone.
After bringing Labor back into power following almost ten years in the political wilderness, the Prime Minister ended a triumphant year thanking Australians for their service.
“Of course, not everyone gets to take it easy today. If you’re rostered on somewhere, I want to say thank you for your service to others,” he said. The Prime Minister has ended 2022 on a political high after polls found Australians were largely welcoming of the government’s massive energy market intervention to ease the power price pain to come.
“While we saw off the worst of the pandemic, cost of living pressures continue to hurt families and small businesses across the nation,” Mr Dutton said. “In the Christian spirit, please reach out to those that you know who may be without loved ones so that they don’t have a lonely Christmas,” he added.
