Insurers have been blasted for informing customers in flood-affected areas of New South Wales that their insurance policies won't be renewed before they've even had the chance to clean up the damage.
Residents in the flood-ravaged towns of Forbes and Molong have been receiving calls and letters from some insurers informing them their policies will not be renewed.
“It's something that the government is attempting to deal with over a period of time. We'll continue to engage with the insurance.” The Mayor added it was unfair for the entirety town to be barred from taking out flood insurance since only a small section near the river and lake flooded. “These communities are too exposed, the risks are very high, these events are becoming more costly and unless we do more to reduce the risk build flood levees and shift communities out of harm's way then insurance does become an unaffordable option,” he said.
