Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced the makeup of his ministry, which will be sworn in tomorrow morning.
The ministry will contain 13 women and 19 frontbenchers – which is the highest representation in any Australian parliament.
Mr Albanese’s cabinet will also have the largest number of women serving in an Australian cabinet, with ten women being sworn in tomorrow. Richard Marles has been chosen for the consequential Defence portfolio, and Clare O’Neil will enter the cabinet as Minister for Home Affairs. Tanya Plibersek has lost the education portfolio and will be taking over environment, after Labor’s shadow environment minister Terri Butler was ousted from her seat of Griffith by the Greens.
Labor has claimed 77 seats in the House of Representatives, meaning Albanese will form a majority government.
