FULL MEDIA CONFERENCE: Anthony Albanese has put up his hand to run as Labor leader in the wake of the party's hard-hitting defeat.
Speaking to the media a day after his party conceded defeat in the federal election, Mr Albanese said he believes he has a ‘responsibility’ to put himself forward, as he believes he is the ‘best person to lead Labor back into government’. Mr Albanese is set to run for the top spot alongside Deputy Labor Leader Tanya Plibersek. A rule change determining how the Labor leader is selected requires a decision from 50 per cent of the caucus and 50 per cent from the membership.
