Some Australian users received an email with the subject line “Paid TikTok Opportunity: Australian Labor Party”, an online news outlet revealed in November.

“You don’t need any incentive to encourage people to put things on social media of a partisan nature against the PM, against me, against Clive Palmer, against anyone,” Mr Albanese told Perth radio station 6PR, which is owned by Nine along with this masthead. “That’s one of the facts of what happens with social media.”

The agency said users should send drafts of their content and once it was approved it would tell them when to post and pay them. “Mozilla believes Facebook and Google are generally doing a poor job on ad transparency, and so the fact that TikTok can’t match even them is troubling,” it said in the June 2021 report.
