Following pressure from the opposition, business groups and media, Labor has told the Financial Review it will list construction tradies as eligible for priority skills visas.“The government is determined to tackle the skills shortage, especially in the construction sector,” Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke told AFR.However, the opposition has blamed the government for delivering “the worst skill shortages in 50 years”.

The opposition accused Housing Minister Clare O’Neil of failing to add tradies to the Specialist Skills Pathway, the highest priority visa. Under the new changes, it will soon be easier for builders and other tradies to migrate to Australia.
