Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has commended Shadow Home Affairs Minister James Paterson’s involvement in the rewriting of Direction 99 while Prime Minister Anthony Albanese put Australia ns “second.”

Mr Dutton’s comments follow Immigration Minister Andrew Giles announcement the controversial directive which enabled a number of criminals to stay in Australia, will be revoked and replaced from June 21. “It is incredibly important that we can have a government that keeps our country safe, and secure… to do that you need to make tough decisions, and this weak Prime Minister unfortunately has made decisions along with Andrew Giles that has made us as a society less safe,” Mr Dutton told media on Friday.

“I give a commitment to the Australian people that as Prime Minister I would prioritise the security and safety of the Australian people above anything else. “Unfortunately, the Prime Minister, through Direction 99, has put Australians second, quite unbelievably when you think of some of the individual cases that come to mind.”
