Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has declined to say if former Victorian premier Daniel Andrews could be in line for a plum government job abroad.
Mr Albanese was asked at a press conference in Melbourne about whether his friend of almost three decades Mr Andrews would make a good diplomat for Australia overseas.
"Look, Daniel Andrews has enormous capacity and he will be successful in whatever endeavour he now embarks on in his future life. Ms Allan emerged victorious from the Labor partyroom on Wednesday afternoon after being elected leader unopposed, with the Right faction's Ben Carroll as her deputy. "He basically said to them: 'You all have the right to aspire to be promoted. You don't have the right to bring divisions into this room'."
Mr Albanese indicated he was pleased the matter was swiftly sorted to avoid a drawn-out ballot and described the new leadership team as a"good outcome" for Victoria.

It has also been reported that the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade learnt of the decision that Qatar’s bid for more flights into the country would be blocked before Anthony Albanese was made aware. The Coalition is pushing for the Albanese government to reveal the reasons behind its decision which could have made flights cheaper for Australians.

The Qantas CEO couldn’t recollect the exact date that the company agreed to support the Voice to Parliament ‘Yes’ campaign. “This is quite incredible, this is the whole quid-pro-quo and no one came prepared to answer questions – what a surprise,” Ms McKenzie said. Former Qantas boss Alan Joyce unveiled the planes with the Yes23 campaign logo at Sydney Airport in August alongside Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
