Anthony Albanese has said he has gone about repairing ties with Beijing 'without compromising any of Australia's national interests' after Chinese state media issued a glowing assessment of the Prime Minister's approach to relations.
The Prime Minister has responded to questions about an editorial in Chinese state media heaping praise on the Albanese government's approach to relations with Beijing since coming to office. Anthony Albanese has said he has gone about repairing ties with Beijing"without compromising any of Australia's national interests" after Chinese state media issued a glowing assessment of the Prime Minister 's approach to relations.
"We said we would co-operate where we can, we would disagree where we must and we would engage in our national interests," he said on Friday evening local time. The Prime Minister said the work his government has undertaken to have China remove trade impediments on products including lobster, barley and wine is something Australians should be"pleased" about.
"I am pleased, and I would've thought that all Australians would be pleased, that there's an increase in our exports to China. We've done that without compromising any of Australia's values, by being clear about what our views are and we've continued to do that.
