Anthony Albanese’s approval rating has plummeted to a new low since becoming Prime Minister following his referendum loss as support for Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has risen.

The Prime Minister's approval rating has dropped to a new low as support for the Opposition Leader has risen, according to the latest Newspoll since the referendum defeat.

It was the first major poll conducted since October 13 – the day before voters would knock back the Voice to Parliament referendum. The Prime Minister, who has been accused of failing to focus on the nationwide cost of living crisis, said he would continue to work on closing the gap. “I think it’s clear that the Australian public is probably over the referendum process for some time,” he said on October 16.
