Prime minister accuses opposition and minor party of teaming up to block housing and environment bills
Albanese says ‘wait and see’ on double dissolution election as he hits out at Greens and Coalition over key billsAnthony Albanese has left open the possibility of a double dissolution election over stalled legislation, urging the Coalition and Greens to pass housing and environmental bills in the Senate.
Asked what would happen if the Senate rejects the Help to Buy scheme, Albanese said the government would “continue to advocate for this”, accusing the Greens and Coalition of blocking “common sense reforms”. The Greens have downplayed the possibility of a double dissolution, pointing to the required three-month window between each failure to pass and questioning the government’s legal advice that delay constitutes such a failure.
