Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has snubbed suggestions of ending the moratorium on nuclear energy as the opposition pushes to develop nuclear plants in Australia.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has snubbed the idea of ending the moratorium on nuclear energy as he blamed high electricity prices on the Ukraine War.
“Howard introduced the moratorium on nuclear energy because it doesn't make any sense here,” Mr Albanese said. Australians are paying some of the highest electricity bills in the world, despite the Prime Ministerâs promise to cut them by $275.The Prime Minister blamed the surge in power prices on a “global energy price spike that occurred after the Russian invasion of Ukraine”.
Shadow energy minister Ted O’Brien has claimed power bills will fall “over time” but did not provide a specific figure at the policy announcement on Friday. “The Coalition, of course, were in government for the previous ten years. They didn't look at this because it doesn't stack up,” the Prime Minister said.
