The Prime Minister will take aim at the Greens for its 'inflexible refusal to compromise or negotiate' over the Housing Australia Future Fund, as he announces a $2 billion spend on social housing.

The Labor leader will outline how the demand for housing across the country has increased to almost three times as fast as the growth of the population.

" all committed to ensuring that investment in housing will work alongside better planning laws, reforming zoning and freeing-up more land for new builds. That’s what this is about... driving real change and building more homes." Mr Albanese will also use his speech to take aim at the Greens for being"stubborn" and"inflexible", after refusing to support Labor's $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund.

"They are a party of protest. Happy to promise the world, while organising a petition against every new apartment building. The Greens have halved its initial housing fund proposal to $2.5 billion a year and called for $1 billion annual incentive for states to freeze rents in return for their support on Labor's Housing Australia Future Fund. However, the Greens demanded the housing fund be substantially increased by $4.5 billion annually, with up to $5 billion in direct spending on housing to close the supply shortfall, as well as a plan to coordinate a national rent freeze.
