It will likely be a subject up for discussion amid concern by Australia and the US over China's growing influence in the Pacific region.Australian PM Anthony Albanese and his Solomon Islands counterpart Manasseh Sogavare warmly greeted each other at a Pacific leaders forum in July 2022. The decision by Sogavare last month to delay the Solomon Islands election has also been a diplomatic headache.
Ahead of the meeting, Albanese noted the importance of Australia's relationship with the Pacific nation.Under a controversial security deal, the Solomon Islands could allow Chinese naval ships to dock in the country and protect the safety of Chinese citizens and major projects.
