Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says promoting fear in the community is not appropriate as the government braces for the possible release of more detainees.
Promoting fear in the community is not appropriate, says Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, as the government prepares for a critical High Court hearing next month which would decide if more detainees should be released into the community., as it charges the board that reviews visa conditions to consider any new issues arising from legal uncertainties about immigration detention.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Albanese said he was not concerned about whether his government was losing control over immigration detention laws, as they had to comply with the High Court decision.“The High Court made a decision last year, it wasn’t one that the government supported, but we have to comply with the law and we have. The priority we have is community safety, we’ll continue to ensure that is the case,” he said.
