Top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz pushed aside Alexander Zverev 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 on Wednesday night, moving a step closer to becoming the first man to win consecutive titles at Flushing Meadows since Roger Federer collected five in a row from 2004-08.
On a sweltering evening, Alcaraz showed off several aspects of his varied game against Zverev.
"I try to make the people enjoy watching tennis, watching the matches," Alcaraz said during his on-court interview. There's also a sense of the moment, knowing when there are points, or games, he absolutely needs to have. On Wednesday, he saved all five break points he faced and converted each of the four he earned in Zverev's service games.
