All-Aussie world title bout as champ makes long-awaited return

Aussie boxing world champion Ebanie Bridges’ second defence of her IBF bantamweight world title is locked in for December 9 in San Francisco against fellow Aussie Avril Mathie.

Bridges’ second defence will see her pitted against another Aussie in the 8-1-1 Mathie, who’s not afraid to strip down either. The match up was somewhat surprising after Mathie lost her last fight against Ramli Ali for the IBF Inter-Continental Super Bantamweight title, which required her to go up a weight class.

Bridges, who knocked out O’Connell in her last fight in the eighth round, said “a mid-rounds KO is very likely” but that she’d be prepare to go the full 10 rounds if she needed to.Bridges tweeted: “I can’t wait to smash your pretty face in @avrilmathie.”They’ve also jumped into the comments on Instagram, with Bridges writing: “Im gonna smash your face in #JustSaying #CollabAfterTho.”While there will be talk to hype up the fight, the pair have long had a kind rivalry.
