He served as a justice minister under Theresa May.to spend more time with his grandchildren and to help his family.
He did not explain why he was not standing as Spelthorne’s candidate again in February, saying only that it “has been an honour” to serve his constituents.The former sports minister and MP for Chatham and Aylesford announced she was not going to stand as a candidate again in February,in February he would not be standing for re-election, due to boundary changes and shifts in his personal life. He won the seat from Labour.
