The south-western seat of East Hills was one of the most marginal in NSW four years ago, and, with the incumbent Liberal MP retiring, it was well and truly up for grabs on Saturday.
Boasting just over 50,000 voters, the seat encapsulates most of the south area of the city of Bankstown. It's a multicultural, multifaith, working-class area covering 40 square kilometres. The 2015 campaign was marred with controversy: a Liberal campaign manager was charged with breaching electoral laws after salacious pamphlets were handed out, and defamatory stickers were placed on Mr Murphy's campaign posters.
