When the ABC visited Alpurrurulam, a tiny outback town on the Northern Territory-Queensland border, all anyone in town wanted to talk about was what was happening at the local school.

Community elders have questioned why more hasn't been done to solve the issue, as a generation of children risks slipping through the cracks. The nurse said she didn't hold the assistant teacher responsible for the attack and that it was an accident. They believe his alleged behaviour is driving away teachers from the school, who are already in short demand.

The assistant teacher strongly denied his former colleague's version of events, saying the incident was "accidental" and that he was adjusting his trousers when his belt slipped, exposing his underwear only. The ABC cannot detail the alleged threat without identifying the teacher, but she says she later took stress leave after the alleged incident.

One even booked a room at the general store, which doubles as a motel, alleging that his comments made her feel intimidated.NT Police said it had not received any reports over the alleged intimidating comments of violence.
