Police said that the man had opened his front door after hearing a noise, thinking that it was someone looking for his son. Instead, the alligator reportedly lunged at the man and bit his leg.

The man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and FWC took the lead in the case, according to police. In an update Sunday, police said that the man had opened his front door after hearing a noise, thinking that it was someone looking for his son. Instead, the alligator reportedly lunged at the man and bit his leg.

The alligator was located near the front entrance of the house and an FWC trapper was called, according to the update. The trapper euthanized the alligator, police said.
