The Kyle family, who own the Alloway hotel and wedding venue and who spearhead the Cumnock-based RAD Group, sought a change of use to ‘Kirkgate’ which is situated a short distance away from the hotel.
Owners of the Brig o’Doon House Hotel have seen their proposals to turn a separate building into accommodation for wedding parties and guests REJECTED.
However, the plans were turned down by the narrowest of margins - with Regulatory Panel Chair Kenneth Bell - winning his motion to reject the plan with his casting vote. She added: “Access is also unsuitable for the multiple vehicle use of 14 cars by reason of it being a single carriageway and being located directly opposite a busy junction of Alloway and Murdoch’s Lone. This will create vehicle conflict.”
Mr Ghosh explained that parking was determined at 14 spaces in an attempt to address “concerns” over on-street parking in relation to the Brig o‘Doon. However, it was revealed during the meeting that the applicants have already been operating Kirkgate as a wedding party overnight offering for “a few months.”
Chairman Bell said: “I must say I’m a bit concerned that you are actually operating this premises without permission. My understanding was there was some work being done on the property- but not that fact that is was operating as a remote hotel. That is a concern, that you have gone ahead and done that.”
