An inquiry has also heard that several respondents to domestic violence orders have applied to become police officers in the past 18 months.

Almost 2000 police officers are yet to start their domestic and family violence training, while only about 350 QPS staff have enrolled in several First Nations programs, an inquiry was told on Tuesday.

Two constables and one senior constable told the inquiry they were either unsure of the phrase “trauma informed practice” – skills to help those who had been traumatisedor had never heard of it, while one constable was uncertain about the standard of proof for domestic violence applications. He said the QPS was working to boost training numbers, and also increase the number of First Nations recruits.
