Some are washing clothes less often, while one in six now share baths and showers
Millions of hard-up people are drastically cutting back on showers and washing their clothes to try and save money on energy and water bills, a study shows. 43 per cent of adults are taking fewer baths and showers, while almost half are washing their clothes less often to cut energy and water usage, according to research by Nous.co .
One in six people are making cost-cutting fun by sharing baths and showers with a partner or friend. Research into 2,000 adults found that women are cutting down on baths more than men, 45 per cent compared to 40 per cent, and that people under 25 are keener on personal hygiene than those over 65. Greg Marsh, founder and CEO of Nous.co , said: “Our research shows the lengths to which millions of people are having to go to drastically alter their lives because they are struggling so much to make ends meet. For many this is no laughing matter. While none of us can completely avoid rising bills for energy, food and mortgages, we can all make a difference by saving on the things we can have a bit of control over.
“It is possible to save on your bills if you know where to look. Here at Nous we can identify £300+ of savings within seconds for most households. As for sharing baths, we can’t advise how much that would save – although get carried away and you may find your household costs increasing 9 months later.”
