Fernando Alonso said it would be a 'lie' if he spoke of fighting for 2023 F1 victories, but down the line that is the target for Aston Martin. ✍️ Formula_Nerds
When asked whether he felt winning races, and maybe a third championship, with Aston Martin was a realistic expectation,“I do believe that yeah, there is a possibility. I don’t think this year, I am honest on that. And I have, as I said, the feet on the ground. I cannot say to anyone we will be fighting for victories this year. I will lie if I say that.
“But at the same time, we want to have, as I said, a good car to start with and to work and develop that car throughout the season,” he added. On the other hand, Alonso did offer Aston Martin fans some hope, suggesting that the team could be well-positioned to capitalise on mistakes or external factors.
“Maybe in the second part of the year, we can get closer if there is an opportunity. [If] there is changeable conditions, there is something that the opportunity comes, we will not miss that opportunity,” the two-time world champion speculated. “But at the beginning, I expect some difficult races until we find where the car operates, which window, the set-up we have to work with.
“The first five races or six races in Alpine, I was struggling a lot to feel in the front end, different power steering settings, all these things.
