The popular market at Alpine Village, near Torrance, has closed — and the entire shopping complex has been sold.
Alpine Village, a Bavarian-themed commercial complex near Torrance that for decades was the heart of the region’s German American community, has been sold and faces the specter of shuttering, according to various sources – with the popular Alpine Market already closed for good.
“It’s just going to be hard,” Michael Mueller, who owns Salamander Shoes at the village, said on Tuesday. “We are going to have to liquidate this, because I don’t think I am going to move my store to a different location, not at this stage in my life anymore, because to open up a new shoe store in a new location is a lot of financial responsibility.”

Business owners were notified today that the property has been sold and that the new owners will notify them tomorrow of the next step.
“This is a family business,” Mueller said. “We really weren’t given any prior notices. We knew it was being sold, but they haven’t given us anything in writing to actually let us know when we have to vacate the premises.” “As is typical for commercial transactions, pursuant to a non-disclosure agreement , the parties were previously precluded from providing information to the public regarding the potential closing date of the sale,” the letter said, “and in order to avoid confusion Alpine Village also wanted to make sure that the sale would actually close before providing this type of notice to any of the tenants.”
