Texas cayó por primera vez en estos playoffs después de comenzar con una foja de 7-0. Max Scherzer, tres veces premiado con el Cy Young, se debió marchar apenas transcurridos cuatro innings, en lo que fue su primera aparición en más de un mes, luego de recuperarse de un tirón muscular en un hombro.

Ryan Pressly, el tercer relevista, resolvió el noveno capítulo para acreditarse su tercer salvamento en los playoffs, al obligar a que Jung bateara una roleta para una doble matanza que puso fin al encuentro. Por los Astros, el venezolano Altuve de 5-2 con dos anotadas y una empujada. Los cubanos Yordan Álvarez de 4-2 con una anotada y dos producidas, José Abreu de 5-1 con una anotada.
