We chat with Alycia Debnam-Carey and Josh Bonzie discuss their work portraying Emily and Clive on Hulu’s new multi-timeline psychological drama, SaintX:
Hulu’s psychological drama Saint X is a gripping look at grief, tragedy, and shared trauma. The story takes place across multiple timelines, exploring how the death of a young woman at an idyllic island resort ripples out to affect everyone involved in the event. The series was adapted from a 2020 novel of the same name by Alexis Schaitkin, which earned rave reviews for the depth and payoff of its slow-burn story.
Alycia Debnam-Carey and Josh Bonzie spoke with Screen Rant about the challenges of working on a multi-timeline show, and more. For me, I kind of approached this a little bit more as a specific character piece. In genre, you have so much of the world that informs what your character is, and what's going on in the story that you're telling. But for this, it felt a little bit more intimate, and insular, and I really appreciated that as a new experience for me.
And Alycia, your character is [in a way] defined by things that you as an actor really didn't get to participate in. Did you get to look at those other scenes that were being filmed, or did you get any sort of context outside of the script that helped you in your portrayal? Your characters are obviously linked through this specific tragedy. How does that affect how they interact and what their relationship comes to be?
