In 1993, Gallo gained national attention after years of abuse led to her cutting her then-husband John Wayne Bobbitt's penis off. She pleaded"temporary insanity" in court. "We have a startling number of things in common," said Knox to Gallo, regarding the contexts leading up to their time in the national spotlight, as well as the follow-up documentaries that added new perspective to their stories after they faded away from the spotlight.
