On Monday, one employee invited Jassy to the"Remote Advocacy" channel. Others cautioned against inviting senior executives, saying they could shut down the channel. "This is going to be absolute chaos and make everyone's work distracted for probably a quarter, maybe longer," one person wrote in the Slack channel."It's hard to be productive with so much uncertainty injected into our lives."
They also lamented the additional commute time and rent expenses that would follow for people moving back to the metropolitan areas where Amazon offices are. One person said driving to the office was"untenable," as it would add a"minimum of 12 hours a week" to their commute. To be sure, Amazon isn't the only tech giant requiring a return to the office. Many of its peers, including Apple, Google, and Salesforce, areBut it appears Amazon employees are ready to fight back. In the Slack channel, employees are putting together a petition to push back against the return-to-office mandate. Some were encouraging employees to share specific data points and anecdotes in a shared document, according to the screenshots seen by Insider.
