Amazon, already one of Houston's biggest employers, aims to fill thousands of jobs in the Houston area as part of a national hiring spree for the holiday season. The Seattle-based online retailer announced plans to hire 150,000 employees throughout the U.S. for full-time, seasonal and part-time roles across its operations network. The company aims to fill 3,000 jobs in Greater Houston and more than 13,000 across Texas. The work ranges from packing and picking to sorting and shipping and pays more than $19 per hour, on average.
Texas will be a top state for hiring, along with California, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah and Washington. Amazon, which employs more than 20,000 in the Houston area, has 36 fulfillment and sortation centers in Texas. “Having started my Amazon career as a seasonal hourly employee, I can say from first-hand experience that even seasonal roles can be a springboard into a lifetime career with Amazon," said Bri Tye, regional director of operations in Texas."Now I have the honor of serving as regional director of operations overseeing five of our largest fulfillment centers across Texas."
