A key Amazon business could sport its weakest growth in over two decades this year, but where some might see a worrisome slowdown, Evercore sees opportunity.
Amazon.com Inc. could post the lowest growth rate this year for its North American retail business in over two decades, but where some might see a worrisome slowdown, Evercore ISI analyst Mark Mahaney sees opportunity.
The ability for Amazon AMZN to reignite revenue momentum across its business is one pillar of Mahaney’s bullish view on the stock, which he called his “Triple Trough Thesis.” Mahaney is of the view, for one, that Amazon likely is at “trough growth.” Further, Amazon could see big revenue benefits as it continues making its shipping times ever speedier. As Mahaney wrote, “the faster the shipping, the greater the demand.”
That multiple could move higher if Amazon shows recovery in operating margins and succeeds in reaccelerating revenue growth.

Brazil builds 'rings of carbon dioxide' to simulate climate change in the AmazonDeep in the Amazon, Brazil is building a complex of towers arrayed in six rings poised to spray carbon dioxide into the rainforest. The aim is to understand how the world’s largest tropical forest responds to climate change. Known as AmazonFACE, the project will probe the forest’s remarkable ability to sequester carbon dioxide — an essential piece in the puzzle of world climate change. This will help understand whether the region has a tipping point that could throw it into a state of irreversible decline. Such a feared event would transform the world’s most biodiverse forest into a drier savannah-like landscape.
