Amber Heard and Johnny Depp settle blockbuster defamation case after years sparring in court over allegations of domestic abuse, according to statements from both sides.
By inking the deal, Depp is letting Heard, 36, slide on the full $10.35 million judgment he was awarded by a jury.acrimonious courtroom"It’s important for me to say that I never chose this. I defended my truth and in doing so my life as I knew it was destroyed.""After a great deal of deliberation, I have made a very difficult decision to settle the defamation case brought against me by my ex-husband in Virginia," she wrote on Instagram Monday.
Heard added that the deal imposes no restrictions on her ability to talk about the case or her allegations of abuse. The source close to Depp pointed out that if she continues to accuse her ex-husband of abuse, she could be sued again for defamation. Depp's lawyers, Benjamin Chew and Camille Vasquez, said the case was never about money for their client.
"We are pleased to formally close the door on this painful chapter for Mr. Depp, who made clear throughout this process that his priority was about bringing the truth to light," they said in a statement.
