Tuesday’s fire was ignited by the arrival of — and response to — Moms for Liberty.
A typically placid school board meeting in Danville was anything but Tuesday night, with grim faces and waving pride flags spilling from the meeting’s doors. Dozens of parents, students and community members packed the building, and many more crowded outside to watch a livestream on cell phones.
“It may be too late for California, but many of the people here have come to do their best to support parents and children who do not want to go down this road of insanity,” said Marlane Huttaker, who doesn’t have children in the district, but expressed concern about board policies “supporting critical race theory, radical gender theory, removing parental controls, and dumbing down our grading system” during the meeting’s public comment period.
Another leaflet singled out an elementary school principal for her role in advocating for LGBTQ+ programs. It also outed the principal’s child’s gender identity and encouraged the community to “stop the agenda” through a districtwide walkout on August 15, which San Ramon Valley Unified said did not happen.
