Current SFO-based employees were promised an equivalent position at any other base, except at Los Angeles International Airport, in a company-wide email.

Vice President of American Airlines Brady Byrnes announced Wednesday that the company will be closing its flight attendant base at San Francisco International Airport effective January 31, 2023.

"As we look at the future of our network, we expect that San Francisco will maintain the same level of flying it does today, but there are no plans to grow San Francisco and no future flying prospects based on our current network strategy," said Lindsay Martin, a spokesperson for American Airlines. She added that"this isn’t a decision we take lightly and we’re committed to working with the SFO team to ensure a smooth transition to another base if they choose to continue flying.”pic.twitter.com/u7XZqioS2o
