Goodwin’s is expected to open in 2024.
Goodwin’s got its name because it’s at the corner of Goodwin and Greenville avenues. Rodgers also likes the origins of the word, which include “good friend” and “good-hearted person.”
The main restaurant, Goodwin’s, will be a spacious room occupying the entire footprint of the former Blue Goose. The three restaurateurs then have plans to open a cocktail bar next to it, at 2909 Greenville Ave. Goodwin's will have patios on the front and side, as the former restaurant Blue Goose did. Almost everything else will look and feel different here.
Rodgers envisions the cocktail bar as darker and moodier than Goodwin’s. It’ll have a nondescript door at the front and an air of mystery. No name has been set yet. He and Bekavac have been kicking around ideas for Goodwin’s for months. They call one another on the phone nearly every morning, a habit they formed since they met a decade ago working for Dallas restaurateur Nick Badovinus. Before this space was Blue Goose, it was a Creole-influenced restaurant named Champagne Johnny’s. A 1982 review inpraised the blueberry muffins and the $5.95 price for an entree — which included a free glass of Champagne.
Today, the building on Greenville Avenue is a shell: no light fixtures, tables or interior walls. There’s still a blue goose wearing a sombrero and playing a guitar painted on the brick wall near a side patio. Soon, design crews will add banquettes, a 22-seat bar and an open kitchen.Goodwin’s will be at 2905 Greenville Ave., Dallas. The cocktail bar will be next-door, at 2909 Greenville Ave., Dallas. Both are expected to open in 2024.
