Sky News aviation expert Captain Byron Bailey has assessed the recent event which saw pilots of a Qantas flight from Brisbane to Perth declare “mayday” and conduct an emergency landing after the plane ran low on fuel.
Qantas Flight 933 made the emergency call while it was in the queue above Wave Rock – about 330km east of Perth – to land on Monday.
Captain Bailey – a former RAAF fighter pilot and commercial airline pilot – spoke of the event and discussed actually how dangerous the situation was.“The problem is Australia has all these onerous rules.”
