The Anchorage Police Department says the new technology could help track down stolen vehicles or suspects in criminal activity, But several Assembly members expressed privacy concerns.

Anchorage police Chief Michael Kerle announced that the department may explore the potential use of the cameras during a meeting last week of the Anchorage Assembly’sKerle said the technology could help the department more easily locate stolen vehicles, or identify cars used to traffic drugs or people by using license plate readers.
