Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor reportedly tried to convince Queen Elizabeth II to allow Princess Beatrice to inherit his Duke of York title — but the late monarch flatly refused, according to royal author Andrew Lownie.

Revealed: Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor 's astonishing bid to make Princess Beatrice inherit his York title- and why Queen Elizabeth II shut it down Ex- Prince Andrew made a shocking demand to the late Queen Elizabeth II about his eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice , a royal author has revealed.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor reportedly tried to convince Queen Elizabeth II to allow Princess Beatrice to inherit his Duke of York title — but the late monarch flatly refused, according to royal author Andrew Lownie. The disgraced ex-prince, 66, is said to have lobbied his mother to alter the royal rules governing hereditary titles as part of his long-running push to protect the status and standing of his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

The claims appear in an updated edition of Lownie's 2025 biography 'Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York', which includes new material following the release of the Epstein files and King Charles III's decision to strip Andrew of his remaining royal titles earlier this year. ASCOT, ENGLAND - JUNE 18: Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Beatrice and Prince Andrew, Duke of York arrive in the Parade Ring they attend Ladies Day on day 3 of Royal Ascot at Ascot Racecourse on June 18, 2015 in Ascot, England.

"Andrew has always been very protective of his daughters and their status, pressing for them to be working royals and to receive police protection even when there was no perceived threat to their lives," Lownie wrote in the revised version of Entitled, as shared by Express UK.

"He even tried to alter Letters Patent so that Beatrice could inherit his title, but the Queen refused. " Under longstanding royal convention, dukedoms are typically inherited through the male line, meaning Beatrice would not ordinarily be eligible to inherit the Duke of York title. Andrew's spectacular fall from grace has unfolded over nearly a decade, beginning with mounting scrutiny over his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and intensifying after his disastrous BBC Newsnight interview in 2019.

The royal crisis deepened further in 2022 when the late Virginia Giuffre- one of Epstein's most prominent accusers- brought a civil sexual abuse case against him in the United States. In the fallout, Queen Elizabeth II stripped Andrew of his military affiliations, royal patronages and HRH title months before her death in September 2022.

However, he managed to retain both his Duke of York title and his Order of the Garter until October 2025, when the first tranche of Epstein files was released by the US Department of Justice. Following a second release of documents, King Charles III removed Andrew's remaining titles and reportedly forced him out of Royal Lodge, the Windsor estate he had shared with ex-wife Sarah 'Fergie' Ferguson for more than 20 years.

In February, Andrew was arrested by local police on suspicion of misconduct in public office, before later being released under investigation. Despite the scandal engulfing their father, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have so far retained their royal titles.

According to reports, King Charles III has been reluctant to remove their HRH status due to their position as granddaughters of Queen Elizabeth II and protections set out in King George V's 1917 Letters Patent, which governs who can be styled Prince or Princess within the royal family. Speaking on his Substack channel, The Lownie Report, the royal biographer claimed the King"may be changing his mind" in the wake of the Epstein files fallout.

In Entitled, Lownie also wrote:"The Epstein files show how Andrew negotiated from Jonathan Rowland a £300,000 payment to himself, of which £50,000 was to be paid to each of the daughters.

"There have always been questions about how Beatrice and Eugenie sustained a jet-set lifestyle on modest salaries. In 2015, for example, Beatrice took sixteen holidays in under a year. This perhaps explains it.

" Beatrice, Eugenie and Ferguson are also repeatedly mentioned throughout the released Epstein-related documents and emails.
