Premier Daniel Andrews has pushed back against suggestions Victoria has suffered reputational damage as a result of the axed Commonwealth Games.

Mr Andrews was asked about the future of major events in Victoria, insisting a “number of very big global sporting and cultural events” are knocking on the state’s door.

“Whilst I am not in a position to make any announcements, there are a number of very big global sporting and cultural events that are knocking on our door. “There are no reputational benefits in running a games that costs three times what they were supposed to, or having a multiyear, multi-country legal battle.”
