Liberal MP Dr Katie Allen says it’s clear Victoria is starting to get control of the virus but Premier Daniel Andrews hasn’t offered “real hope” in regards to the strategy out. “We’re hearing someone who is not listening to the people of Victoria,” Dr Allen told Sky News. “We’re looking for the premier understanding that business and retail and consumers are going to be part of the road out,” she said.

“This is not just about health, it’s also about the economy.” Mr Andrews released his government’s roadmap on Sunday for getting out of lockdown, which extended Metropolitan Melbourne’s lockdown by another fortnight. It also outlined further steps for cautiously exiting the lockdowns, dependent on low case numbers. “There is a lot of issues in this roadmap that don’t make a lot of sense,” Dr Allen said. “It’s not a one size fits all, let’s be targeted in this roadmap out.

WHO adviser labels Andrews govt lockdown roadmap 'unattainable' and 'unworkable' | Sky News AustraliaWHO adviser labels Andrews govt lockdown roadmap 'unattainable' and 'unworkable' | Sky News AustraliaAn adviser to the World Health Organisation says the Andrews government roadmap out of coronavirus lockdowns for Victoria is 'unattainable' and 'unworkable'.\n\nPremier Daniel Andrews' plan did not see significant changes to restrictions until the end of October and had a target for zero cases for 14 days by the end of November.\n\nProfessor Mary-Louise McLaws said at least 20 per cent of cases were asymptomatic meaning a risk for community spread was always present.\n\nMs McLaws called for a strict contact tracing policy and adopt a strategy that was preemptive rather than reactionary.\n\nState Opposition leader Michael O'Brien criticised the Premier's plan arguing he had other options.\n\n'You've got epidemiologists in Victoria saying they don't support the modelling he's based this on,' Mr O'Brien said. \n\n'The economic devastation of this... it's going to be something that's generational.'\n\nMeanwhile, Prime Minister Scott Morrison expressed his strongest criticism yet of the Andrews government calling for the Premier to step up to bear more of the financial burden for the decisions he's making.\n\nMr Morrison urged Mr Andrews to open his state faster and to look to New South Wales' management strategies as a frame of reference.\n\nThe Prime Minister made it clear the national economy would wear the consequences of Victoria's decisions, refusing to absorb any of the political pain that flowed on from this.\n\nImage: News Corp Australia

Victoria's roadmap out is a 'pathway to economic despair' | Sky News AustraliaVictoria's roadmap out is a 'pathway to economic despair' | Sky News AustraliaVictorian Premier Daniel Andrews’ roadmap out of lockdown is leading Melbourne further down a path of misery and economic crisis, according to Liberal MP Tony Pasin. \n\nMr Pasin told Sky News the roadmap was a “car crash” which “evaporated” any hope Melburnians might have had of being released from the state’s strict coronavirus measures. \n\n“The reality is this is a pathway to significant economic despair,” he said. \n\n“The cost of that is not going to be visited on just Victorians, it’s going to be visited on all Australians.”\n\nHe said the mental well-being of Victorians was a serious concern, especially as the Premier had flagged some restrictions could potentially linger in Melbourne until February. \n\n“I’m starting to be very concerned that unless we get this right, unless we tailor the economic adjustments correctly, many more people will die as a consequence of the restrictions than have died as a result of COVID,” Mr Pasin said.\n\n“It’s a really difficult thing when hope has been removed and you start thinking about your long term future.” \n\nImage: Getty \n

Andrews ‘secretly changes COVID strategy’ from suppression to eradication | Sky News AustraliaAndrews ‘secretly changes COVID strategy’ from suppression to eradication | Sky News AustraliaNationals Senator Matt Canavan says there has been a “secret change in strategy” in Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews’ approach to managing the coronavirus.\n\n“Effectively the Victorian government adopted a strategy of elimination,” he told Sky News.\n\nIn Victoria’s newly released roadmap to recovery, the Andrews government requires the state to record zero cases for a 28-day period in order to transition to a COVID normal level of function. \n\n“Why would you be going for that target when we’ve all been saying we should be flattening the curve and we need to get our health system up to scratch”.\n\nMr Canavan said Victoria’s roadmap to recovery was “kind of friendless” and was not being backed by most public experts or the business community in the state.\n\nThe Nationals Senator said the Victorian Premier needed to explain “why he has chosen certain thresholds” and he needed to release the modelling supporting his plan.\n\n“It just seems completely crazy to set these very low thresholds before people can get out and about in Victoria”.\n\n“If Dan Andrews wants to stick with Dan Andrews plan, well Dan Andrews should be sent the bill. The bill shouldn’t be coming to Canberra and all Australian taxpayers”.\n\nImage: Getty
