Andrews is naturally showing blatant disregard to a Victorian press gallery that largely became his mere and compliant stenographers during the Covid pandemic, writes Caroline Di Russo.

We see this at all levels of governments of all stripes, but few are as brilliantly accomplished in the dark arts of politicking as Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews.

This solo trip will be his first since the pandemic, and given all that has passed in the interim, it has certainly raised eyebrows across the political spectrum that he has failed to take the media with him.He is happy to give the detail he considers politically expedient, but outside of that he has an unbridled distain for answering questions and is not in the slightest bit interested in explaining the greater purpose and substance of his trip to China.

During the pandemic, the left-leaning Victorian press gallery allowed themselves to become mere and compliant stenographers for the Andrews government.
