During the press conference for the Disney sequel Monday, the actress expressed how she was "happy to feel strong again" as the Sleeping Beauty villain. While she joked she was a little taken aback when people told her she was the perfect fit for the dark role ahead of the first film in 2014, certain events in her life prompted her to "fully embrace" the character for the sequel.
"So maybe I just needed to fully embrace it at this time in my life," she added. "You know years ago when we first did it, I was like...She's a bit wild and full-on and a bit much and fun." "And now, you know, I've been through different things in my life and I was so happy to feel strong again and to have some fun," she added. "And I adore being her and there's something about her that I'm now very proud that I'm associated."
