HOUSTON — After Reid Detmers’ struggles continued with another disappointing outing in the Angels’ 11-3 loss to the Houston Astros on Friday night, the 24-year-old left-hander stood in a quiet clubhouse and seemed to be at a loss for answers.
“This is hurting him,” Manager Phil Nevin said. “It’s bothering him. It hurts us too. A really talented young pitcher that’s going to do great things for us for a long time that’s in a little bit of a rut right now. You feel for him for that.” Detmers got through the first inning on Friday, working around a hit and a walk. He took the mound in the second with a 1-0 lead after C.J. Cron hit a homer, but he gave it back quickly.
Detmers then gave up a single, a double and a walk before finally getting the first out of the inning.
